Blankets for Afghanistan |
Here’s a great program that has helped the real people in Afghanistan.
During a service in October, Rebecca Reeder announced that her son, Ben, stationed in Afghanistan with the Indiana Nat'l. Guard, was helping his unit buy and distribute blankets for the 52 families living in a refugee camp outside Kabul. These American soldiers have been taking money from their own pay to provide food, clothes, medical treatment, and supplies for these families who were displaced by the Taliban. Now, as winter approaches, these families, ranging from 8 to 15 people in each, are facing the prospect of sleeping with few or no blankets. Ben wondered if there might be anyone in the congregation who would be willing to help.
Jim & Rebecca would like to report that, as of Tuesday, November 9, the members of UUCFW have donated over FIFTEEN HUNDRED DOLLARS and others in the surrounding communities who've read about this in the newspaper, have contributed over FIVE HUNDRED DOLLARS! That's over TWO THOUSAND DOLLARS!!! Heartfelt thanks to everyone who has stepped forward with their support.
Leave it to a UU soldier to realize that blankets will do more than bombs and bullets. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
