"Tree of Life"

DEDICATION OF THE QUILT
More than a year ago, some UU women began the UU Piecemakers Quilt Covenant group. As beginners, we practiced on easy projects, like table runners and Christmas ornaments. Then Marilyn Mauer, one of our expert quilters, challenged us to undertake a bigger project. And FINALLY IT CAN BE REVEALED! On Sunday, October 2nd, we dedicated the piano cover we’ve been working on for over a year!
The pattern is the “Tree of Life.” First we made practice blocks of the “Tree of Life”; then we felt brave enough to cut the real fabric and go to work. Marilyn and Sandra Maze selected the shade of brown for the background. Then Carol Bower, Nan Getzin and Marilyn went shopping for jewel-tone fabrics for the leaves.
We’ve met twice a month and have become good friends in the process. Special thanks to Marilyn Mauer, who has since moved to Oregon, for financing the materials and helping us select a pattern. Also, thanks to Nan Getzin, our facilitator, for keeping us “on task”. We hope our quilt will help protect the piano and will demonstrate our love for this congregation.
Members of the UU Piecemakers are: Carol Bower, Jean Fairman, Nan Getzin, Linda Kaufman, Anne Littlefield, Ann McKenna, Marilyn Mauer, Sandra Maze, Cynthia Powers, Darlene Smith, Diane Stirratt, Ann Wade, and Susan Wahls.
