Social Action and Service Department
The Social Action and Service Department provides members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne a spectrum of opportunities through which they can develop and express their Unitarian Universalist values in the community and the world. It also works to ensure that our outreach and service activities exemplify the values embodied in the UUA statement of Principles and Purposes and our congregation’s Mission Statement and Covenant.
This department is responsible for coordinating planning, budget development, and operations related to:

Social concerns & community responsibility |

UU members and friends regularly support two volunteer programs at Study Elementary School.
Every Tuesday a group of about eight volunteers participates in Project Reads, a city-wide program to help children in grades K-3 improve their reading skills. One Thursday every month, some twenty volunteers have lunch and share books with second grade students. We give students a paperback book to encourage further reading at Christmas and at the end of the school year.
We also help the
school in other ways. We donated school supplies last fall
and, at Christmas, members and friends provided t-shirts to every
Study student to boost school pride. Our volunteers also served
as judges for the school's first-ever science fair and participated in
Study's Read-Across-America Day. Our time and material support are
adding to the success of this Title I school and are deeply appreciated by
students and staff.
