SICKO SCHEDULED
Michael Moore’s documentary “Sicko” will be shown at the Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Meetinghouse, at 6:30 PM on Saturday, May 3.  The showing of “Sicko” is the culmination of “Cover the Uninsured Week”, April 27 to May 3.

The showing is free and open to the public, with free refreshments and a discussion following the film.

CLOTHING DRIVE FOR DARFUR
Toni Kring has let me know that the clothing drive for Darfurian refugees will take place every two weeks at the Rialto Theater.  The next one will be May 3 from 11-3.  There is a big need for shoes and clothing for all seasons.  The desert is very cold at night so warm clothes are welcome.  These donations will go to refugees in camps in Chad, the neighboring country to Darfur.

SPECIAL MUSIC FOR UUs
Special music is planned for Mothers Day, May 12, by the Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Congregation.  Three pieces will be performed by the choir, under the direction of Anne H. Littlefield.

"Be Ye Lamps Unto Yourselves" with words by Buddha and music from the Sarum Antiphonal will be presented during the chalice lighting. Other music will be "Jazz Alleluia" by Tom Benjamin and "Roots and Wings." This is the final choir presentation until the church's ingathering in mid-August.

UU Director of Music Littlefield is participating as pianist and singer with the Festival Choir in their spring program series which began in March.  This is a community choir representing about 25 churches in the city.  Each year the choir sings a series of concerts, mostly in local churches, but also in prisons in Coldwater, MI.  The money raised from freewill offerings helps to support the prison ministry and other local charities.

GUEST PERFORMERS
Robin and Norm Newman and Hope Sheehan will sing at the Sunday service of the Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Congregation, on Sunday, May 18.

SUMMER SCHEDULE CHANGE
The Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Congregation will move its services to a summer schedule on Sunday, June 1.  Worship service will begin at 10 a.m. and there will be no adult religious education.

GARAGE SALE
The Fort Wayne Unitarian Universalist Congregation will sponsor a garage sale from 8 a.m. to noon (or later) at their Meetinghouse, on Saturday, June 7.

"Sisters Over 70"

The next meeting of the Sisters Over Seventy group will be Thursday, May 8.  We’ll be traveling over to the Starlight Room at the Townhouse Retirement Community where we’ll join Jean Fairman, who’s hosting this meeting.  Jean has asked us to stay for lunch and, if you’d like to, Nan Getzin (747-6432) is taking reservations.  All Sisters who live on the South side of town will meet here at the church parking lot so we can carpool over.

For more information, contact Jeanne at 744-5786 or email: jnuech@aol.com

Have Your Say!

UUCFW Chat is a new Yahoo eGroup designed for members and friends of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne.  Its purpose is to provide a forum for discussion of matters of mutual interest to the congregation, exchange of ideas and opinions, commentary on community issues, suggestions for social action, and the like.

Announcements of upcoming activities sponsored by the congregation will continue to be handled by our office; UUCFW Chat is more on the order of an online covenant group for the entire congregation.  It is an unmoderated (but not immoderate) eGroup devoted to encouraging a fuller opportunity for dialogue among our membership (... for example, continuing discussion on recent adult RE topics or topics addressed from the pulpit by Jay or others).  Think of it as an extended coffee hour, even if you couldn't make it to the Sunday service or stay for coffee hour.

You can join by signing on to http://groups.yahoo.com/group/UUCFWchat/.  And, of course, you may opt out of the group at any time.
