Reflection from Rebecca Reeder “The Heart of UU” (from 02/21/19)
Why would a group call themselves Unitarian Universalists and not covenant with the larger community? When the founders of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Fort Wayne created this community, they agreed to covenant with the UUA. Our denomination is not hierarchical, it is covenantal. We don’t get mandates from the top down. As free congregations we enter into covenant, promising to one another our mutual trust and support.
In the past few years, I have learned so much about, and so much from, the UUA. I have grown personally from consulting with denominational experts, participating in online workshops, finding information on the website, reading UU World, and attending General Assembly. To me, the UUA is truly the heart of what it means to be UU.
If you have never taken a look, why don’t you visit their website at https://www.uua.org/about. I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised.
